With another WWE live event in the books, it’s only tradition that I do a special edition for it! This time, I got
at collabing with me to cover Bash in Berlin.Usually we’d watch it together, but this weekend we watched it separately so we thought it would be cool to offer our thoughts on the event and each individual match.
Lamar has been a long-time fan of WWE, whereas me, a total of four months!! So you’ll get the opinion of someone who’s been around longer and one where she has no idea what she’s talking about 😆.
Cody Rhodes vs Kevin Owens
Prediction:
Kathy - Cody
Lamar - Cody
RESULT: CODY RHODES
Thoughts and Ranking:
KATHY - 4.0
I really enjoyed this match! I seriously almost thought it would ruin their friendship and Kevin turns heel. I love that it was clean and quite a competitive match. A few times, I thought they were going to give Kevin the win, but that would be weird if Cody lost it here.
I thought it was super cute how Kevin held back a few times and didn’t want to hurt his friend. It’s hard to hurt a friend when he’s down! Haha. Maybe we’ll get a rematch due to that. If there is, I expect it to be another great and entertaining fight.
LAMAR - 4.0
I like a face vs face matchup, cause you know in most cases, it’s a clean, competitive match to see who’s better. I expected no shenanigans, no interference, just a bard burner... And that’s what we got!
It's hard to believe it’s been 7 years since KO’s last single’s title! Especially with how involved he’s always been in the main event scene. Part of me wanted him to take this, but I knew they weren’t going to take the strap off Cody too soon. It was a fun match, both got their offence in with the German crowd roaring for both as they went back and forth. KO holding back on attacking Cody’s weak knee got me, and his refusing to let classic violent Owens out, which cost him the victory. So I predict a rematch, as Cody will call KO out for holding back and pitying him in the middle of the match. Maybe a street fight or another special stipulation match at Bad Blood?
Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn vs Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill
Prediction:
Kathy - Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn
Lamar - Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn
RESULT: BIANCA BELAIR & JADE CARGILL
Thoughts and Ranking:
KATHY - 3.0
I loved their costumes!! I need to make myself some outfits like that, honestly! Like, all four of ‘em! This one was fun but I felt like Alba and Isla didn’t get to do much since their last win. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jade and Bianca, but I feel kind of bad for the other two not getting a lot of time to do cool things. I will say, when either Alba or Isla (can’t remember who) wrapped Bianca’s hair around the rope, I had to laugh. That’s honestly what I would do if I had to fight someone with hair that long!
All in all, I’m not mad that Jade and Bianca won their title back. I love those two and think they’re super cool.
LAMAR- 2.5
I felt WWE never really gave Isla and Alba a chance for a competitive reign to begin with, and just gave them the titles for a hometown win back in Scotland. This is why I had hoped this would be the match where they could showcase themselves as champ and beat Bianca & Jade, especially knowing what they were capable of in NXT. They played the classic heal, mostly beating Bianca down from getting the hot tag to Jade, and as this was playing out, I knew they were going to eat the pin.
Alba Fyre, I would have to say, is the MVP of this match. She was very on point the entire match and one of the highlights for me was her kick-off Tornado DDT to both Bianca and Jade to prevent a tag! Congrats to Jade and Bianca for getting the titles back, at least for now, as we wait for the eventual turn on each other. But I just wanted a little bit more Fyre & Dawn not playing jobbers and being seen as transitional champs.
CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre
Prediction:
Kathy - DM Hunk obviously!!
Lamar - CM Punk
RESULT: CM PUNK
Thoughts and Ranking:
KATHY - 4.0
Unless you put Drew up against Damien, I’ll never not cheer for Drew. The man looks like a Baldur’s Gate character. I didn’t know what a strap match was, but that was awesome! Pure entertainment, and I want more of it! It reminds me of that one Saw trap where they had the two guys tied to each other, and one was sewn up at the lips and the other, the eyes.
Anyway, at the beginning, when Drew was beating the living shit out of CM Punk, I ALMOST felt bad for him, but not really. At the same time, I was wondering if he would get injured again, not that I’m hoping he would be, just more worried. But then I was quite sad when Drew lost because I really am not a fan of CM Punk. He just isn’t cool!
If I’m at a live fight (which I will be at Raw!!), you’ll never hear me chant CM Punk; instead, you’ll hear me chant DM Hunk!
LAMAR - 3.5
I was rooting for Drew, I am not a CM Punk fan, but I knew he had to win this to extend the rivalry to a tiebreaker. Strap matches are fun; it's like watching a brutal gameshow. Drew getting the early offence in before the bell reminded us of how intense this rivalry really is! Both were refusing to tap the turnbuckles too early in to get hurt each other.
I do like that this match was just 1 vs 1 without Seth Rollins distracting both the viewers and both competitors. A cool table spot with Punk being dropped from inside the ring to the outside (I swear, every time I see spots like these, I’m worried that Punk gets injured!). CM Punk hitting numerous GTS, and managing to take his bracelet back before the win is probably much needed a feel-good moment for his fans (I can only assume as I’m not one). Now we gotta get a tiebreaker match at Bad Blood. Hell.. In a Cell!!
Damien Priest & Rhea Ripley vs Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan
Prediction:
Kathy - Damien Priest & Rhea Ripley!!!
Lamar - Damien Priest & Rhea Ripley
RESULT: DAMIEN PRIEST & RHEA RIPLEY
Thoughts and Ranking:
KATHY - 5.0
This was the match I was looking forward to the most, annnnnnd it did NOT disappoint. I was laughing so hard seeing Dirty Dom (oh wait, it’s Daddy Dom now, isn’t it?) and Liv get their ass handed to them. I absolutely love the Terror Twins, and I won’t be mad if they keep dominating. Oh, and that move they both did at the end where they lifted Liv and Dom up in the air? So cool!!! I was cheering the whole time this fight. Vengeance sure is sweet.
LAMAR- 4.0
This mixed-tag match was pure entertainment! I was not expecting it to be competitive by a long shot, as I was completely fine with the Terror Twins beating the living crap out of Dom, and they did!
Shoutouts to Dom and Liv for just receiving the beatdown and making it look good, especially Liv. As she plays mistress in the last few months we tend to forget that she is a bump machine! The Judgement Day got involved, which we expected, but Rhea and Damien took care of them (JD takes top-tier bumps on the Men’s side!). The double Razor’s Edge was the highlight as Rhea and Priest picks up the much-needed momentum win that should lead them to their individual rivalry matches with Balor, and more importantly, Rhea’s attempt to recapture the title she never lost to Liv.
Gunther vs Randy Orton
Prediction
Kathy - Gunther
Lamar - Gunther
RESULT: GUNTHER
Thoughts and Ranking:
KATHY - 3.5
I love watching Gunther fight; the man is a powerhouse. I also really like Randy, he’s super cool even though I don’t know anything of his history. But I didn’t love that fight as much as I thought I would. For me, I thought Gunther vs Damien Priest was so awesome. Maybe I just loved all the chops that were happening. I did guess how many chops Gunther would do in this one, I guessed 13, and he did 12. I was damn close!
But can we just stop for a moment and talk about how awesome the German crowd was, especially during this fight? They rivalled the French!! I also got to flex my German a bit with the chants haha.
LAMAR - 4.5
Absolutely wild hearing Gunther get cheered for the first time as I’ve always known him to be heel. Ludwig Kaiser doing his introduction was cherry the on top. This was my favourite match on the card because of how intense it was. It had a classic 80’s big mania match feel.
Slow (although some points with Orton being out of breath irl), methodical, and gruelling. It’s not often we get to watch Gunther get manhandled by another man, and play the face persevering, and that’s what made this unique for me. Alas, we get a clean victory for Gunther, and against truly a living legend like Orton at that. This defence now solidifies him as an absolute BOSS (he really resembles a comic villain for real) and will likely hold on to that title at least until Mania.
A Solid PLE
Kathy’s Final Thoughts:
Another solid PLE, in my opinion. It was simple and clean. It doesn’t need to be another SummerSlam, because it’s not. It did what it set out to do, continue some of the ongoing feuds, and I got all the drama I needed with the Terror Twins fight. I had a lot of fun watching it! I also think more events should happen in Europe because their fans are just top-notch! I love the energy there. France, Scotland and Germany are *chef’s kiss*.
Lamar’s Final Thoughts:
While nothing overly shocking, this PLE delivered from top to bottom. Listen, not every match needs referee distractions, betrayals, 5 bloodline members coming out that extends storylines ending in cliffhangers. After a very hectic and eventful Summerslam (which might be my favourite PLE this year so far), I’m happy to get some conclusion matches with clear finishes. Now we can move on from certain rivalries into fresh new ones like for Gunther and the Women’s Tag Team champions.
Babymetal being the official soundtrack with Electric Callboy was sick; let’s bring back more modern metal like we had on NXT black and gold! A night of fun, competitive matches, along with an amazing crowd, made this a treat of a PLE. I hope they go back to Germany.
Thank you for having me on this! I like how different and similiar our reviews were lol German crowd man just owned
